I Lost My Health, My Gym, and My Edge — Then I Took It All Back
My journey to rebuild strength and vitality after 50.

I grew up in Northeast Ohio doing what most of us do — chasing the American dream. Got married, raised three great kids, and did the corporate grind to keep life moving. Somewhere along the way, though, I lost my health. My wife and I were both working long hours, eating whatever was easy, and the stress and weight piled on.

When we moved to Colorado in 2010, I started chasing a better version of myself. I joined a local boot camp gym, got in the best shape of my life, and eventually bought the place. For years, I trained men and women in group sessions, helped people drop weight, gain confidence, and build a tight-knit fitness community. Life was good — until it wasn’t.

As my kids hit college age, I went back to full-time work to help pay for tuition while still trying to keep the gym running. The stress and exhaustion caught up with me. Then COVID hit, and that was the end of the gym. I poured myself into work, but the truth is, I started to slip — drinking too much, eating whatever was around, and watching my energy and motivation disappear.

I still hiked the mountains, still hit the gym a few times a week, but I was carrying extra fat, feeling sluggish, and knew I wasn’t living like the guy I used to be. I was coasting — and I hated it.The Rebuild

One day I looked in the mirror and didn’t recognize the guy staring back at me. I wasn’t weak — I was still lifting and hiking — but I’d lost my edge. I was carrying too much weight, drinking too much, and running on fumes. It wasn’t who I wanted to be for my wife, my kids, or myself.

So I decided to rebuild. Not just my body — my entire approach to health, strength, and life. I quit drinking, cleaned up my nutrition, and started training with purpose again. I stopped making excuses and started tracking progress. Slowly, the fat came off, the energy came back, and so did my confidence.

During that time, I dove headfirst into learning everything I could about longevity, metabolic health, and how men can slow — or even reverse — the physical and mental decline that often hits in midlife. I poured through books, podcasts, and research on optimizing strength, hormones, sleep, and recovery.

Eventually, I decided to take it a step further. I enrolled in formal education, earning my Certified Master Health & Wellness Coach credential and pursuing Board Certification through the NBHWC — the gold standard in health coaching.

Combined with years of real-world experience — going from fit to fat and back again — this gave me a deeper understanding of what it really takes to help men reclaim their strength and vitality.

That’s when Vitality Strong Coaching was born — a way to help other men in midlife rebuild their health, body, and confidence using proven, sustainable methods. Why I Coach Men Like You
